Introducing the HyperSport Series II

The HyperSport is aimed at satisfying the needs of most demanding recumbent rider, It's launch in September 2003 rewrote the parameters by which a performance trike should be judged. A lot of manufacturers define their flagship model by adding a selection of numerous and often unnecessary expensive accessories.

The HyperSport needs no such accoutrements to confirm its credentials as The Ultimate Recumbent Trike, and it features some of the most exciting technical breakthroughs in the field of recumbent cycles since the original Windcheetah made its dramatic entrance over 21 years ago.

The Windcheetah Hypersport Series II features extensive use of weight saving Carbon Fibre resulting in a chassis which is 20% lighter than the Windcheetah ClubSport model (which could never be described as overweight) and yet retains the class leading stiffness of the original design, ensuring that all the riders pedalling input is translated into effortless forward motion. Driver comfort is still high on the list of priorities; a unique HyperActive seat suspension system is standard fitment, the lightweight carbon seat being suspended on carbon fibre leaf springs. The Windcheetah seat cushions absorb vibration from minor road surface imperfections while the carbon leaf springs isolate the rider from larger potholes and bumps that road riders have to deal with. Light and effective, this unique solution has no wearing parts and remains maintenance free for the life of the vehicle. This type of suspension medium is a first in the field of recumbents and is a typical example of the cutting edge technology employed in AVD products.

Other detail changes include a complete revision of all the cast aluminium frame lugs to reduce weight, reduced wall thickness to the frame tubes, new lightweight seat mounts, especially cutaway seat and seat cushion, revised derailleur mounting arrangement enabling customers to specify much wider gear range than on previous models. All these changes add up to create the most advanced recumbent trike in the world.

Other standard features on the HyperSport include titanium front and rear axles with titanium, aluminium and stainless fasteners used throughout. To complete the impressive HyperSport specification a Shimano DuraAce/Ultegra groupset is fitted as standard equipment.

An interesting footnote to the HyperSport story is that a portion of the considerable development costs were funded by an Innovation Grant provided by the UK Department of Trade and Industry. We are grateful for the support provided under the scheme and believe that this government support for a project of this nature demonstrates how much progress has been made bringing recumbents into the mainstream.
